Cham and Damian Marley Spotted Together in Studio

(Dancehall Mag) – “Damian and Damian in studio.” That’s how Cham captioned his latest Facebook post, and anyone who knows his government name caught the joke right away.
Before he was Baby Cham, and long before he dropped the “Baby,” he was Damian Beckett, so this session puts two Damians from Jamaica in the same room.
The post itself is short. Beyond the line about the two Damians, Cham added “Hustling” with three fire emojis and tagged it #cham, #damianmarley and #hustlin.
That’s the whole announcement. No song title, no release date, no word on whose project the session is for.
That lack of detail is exactly why the post has people guessing. Studio photos in dancehall and reggae can mean anything, from a finished single days away from release to two old heads catching up with the speakers on. Cham chose the word “hustling,” which suggests actual work was getting done, but he’s leaving it there for now.
On paper the pairing makes a lot of sense. Cham came up through Dave Kelly’s Madhouse camp and broke through internationally with “Ghetto Story,” the 2006 hit that picked up a remix featuring Alicia Keys.
His delivery has always leaned toward vivid street storytelling, a lane that sits comfortably next to Damian Marley’s more conscious, lyrics-first approach.
Damian’s own track record is full of collaborations that stretched beyond his home base. His 2005 album “Welcome to Jamrock” turned the title track into a global anthem. He later teamed with Nas on “Distant Relatives” in 2010 and joined Mick Jagger in the supergroup SuperHeavy.
His 2017 album “Stony Hill” won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album, so he’s hardly short of options when it comes to who he steps into the booth with.
That context is what makes a Cham link-up interesting. Damian tends to be selective, and a session with one of dancehall’s sharpest storytellers points to a meeting of two different sides of Jamaican music.
